Saddelry & Gunroom - Photoshoot #2

This was my second shoot down at Saddelry & Gunroom though rather than an indoors shoot I managed to get outside and photography their Annual Turkey Shoot. While their I found everyone to be very helpful and more than happy to have their photographs taken, this made me feel a lot more comfortable; because of that the photographs I took where much better.

Here are some examples of the photographs of the shoot -

Outcome -

Overall I was very please with this photoshoot, the natural lighting was exellent.
Lighting was not an issue as the weather was absolutely perfect for photography; I used the Elincrom Ranger kit to balance against the sunlight, which gave excellent lighting.

I believe I got all the shots I needed in order to finish this project, along with a few people asking for prints and copies.

Photoshoot #1 – Saddelry & Gunroom (S&G)

Photoshoot #1 – Saddelry & Gunroom (S&G)

Ideas –
My ideas for the first shoot down at the Saddelry & Gunroom are to show the other side of shooting, less of the technical and mathmatical side and more of the actual shooting and prestige of the sport. The day I have chosen to photograph is the biggest shooting competition of the year, so there will be quite a selection of people and weaponry.

Though I will not just be photographing the members I will also photograph the Gamekeeper, the Boss, Howard as well as the secretary Pam.

Equipment –
Canon 550D DSLR
Canon 100mm Macro Lens
Canon 17mm – 85mm Lens
Canon 430 EXii Speedlite
External 64 LED Modelling Light
External Speedlite Softbox
Selection of coloured lens filters
Elincrom Ranger Flash Kit

Outcome & Photographs -

The outcome of this photoshoot was good although difficult. Since I have been photographing in a Gun Shop I was very restricted on where I could and could not photograph. Especially when in doors, as I could not capture any of the secuirty systems. However I managed to do so with the permission and censorship of the boss.

I managed to shoot my double page spread inside the shop with the Manager, John though I am generally happy with the photograph the composition is a little off for my liking. John had to stand more centered in the photograph to cover up a peice of the security.

Wiltshire Ballistic Services (WBS) – Saddelry & Gunroom Change

Wiltshire Ballistic Services (WBS) – Saddelry & Gunroom Change

Unfortunately due to unforeseen I can no longer get down to Wiltshire to finish my Annual Report, however on further research and talking with WBS I found that they have a partial a sales office/range in Biggin Hill, known as Saddelry & Gunroom.

Essentially the project will be the same, though less on the technical side of ballistics but more on the prestige of shooting and the type of people that shoot. It is a shame that I cannot look further into WBS but when you’re a large ballistics company that works on projects for the MOD it becomes difficult.

My ideas for my first Photoshoot are as follows on the next post.

Photoshoot #2 - Wiltshire

Idea -
I will be travelling back down to Wiltshire in order to improve and retake the photographs from the first shoot. Using more creativity to create each image, of course still using the method of Mixed Lighting.

I am going to try and show more of what they actually do at Wiltshire, previously it was difficult as they where working on a Top Secret project for the MOD, therefore showing what they did was difficult. However on this next trip they should have finished and I will have more free reign to photograph.

The portraits will hopefully encompass both the people who work there and what they do. I will also attempt to make the employees look more relaxed and calm.
